Rice Water Toner

Rice water toner

This is an amazing toner and so simple, cheap and affective!
If you are planning to make rice for dinner I suggest you try to make this toner first so you don't waste the rice!

Pour your rice into a bowl and fill with enough warm water to cover the rice and let the water go cloudy. This is the water you'll use for your toner! Organic rice is best as it contains no pesticides or chemicals.

Tip the water out of the bowl and using a cotton wool pad apply to a clean dry face as you would any toner. Make sure it is not hot before applying to your face!

You can save the water in a bottle to be used another time (Do not store for more than 3-4 days as it will start to go moldy! YUCK!) I recommend storing the toner in the fridge to keep it as fresh as possible!

Also there are many types of rice, experiment with different rice to find which suit you and your skin best, as well as which are the most delicious!
There are over 40,000 different varieties of rice in the world but some of the most commonly used for this toner are;
White rice,
Brown rice,
Jasmine rice,
Black rice,
Bamboo rice.

Other useful information to note about Rice:

Rice contains :
*Para aminobenzoic acid (PABA) which is often found in sunscreen. When eaten, PABA can also raise Vitamin C levels in our body.
*Ferulic acid which is an antioxidant. Some scientists have found that when ferulic acid is added to Vitamin C and E, its sun protection ability doubled
*Allantoin is an anti-inflammatory agent. It can help soothe sunburn and also promote the skin's natural repair.

Asian women also believe that using rice water or powder daily can help lighten skin. This usually takes up to a month to see any difference but even then it is not a dramatic result but can help to make your complexion brighter.

Rice water mask:
Using a paper kitchen towel you can make a mask (cut out eye holes and nose slit and mouth hole) to soak in the toner and leave on your face for 10 minutes for a refreshing mask. I find this is particularly good in the summer to help cool and soothe my face!
